The Color Red

Red is hot.
It’s like it jumps from the ground into my head.
The burning taste it makes, I hate it.
It changes me somehow.
What happens?
You can stop it if you think of white snow.

The Community

My community seems lost like a book with no title.
The streets ain’t good for nothing else but holding a rifle.
We got murders every day.
Children lost like a stray.
So many bad things on the news, seems like it is a play.
You got to look behind your back and watch what you say.
A lot of people ain’t smart and some act a fool.
It seems the only choice you have is to stay in school.
See my neighborhood ain’t nothing and nothing is better.
East side covers Cleveland up like it’s wearing a sweater.

Poetry

Poetry can be a song, a story, safe, simple, and sincere
It can be happy, honest, hopeful or hilarious
It can be a melody, a movement, a mirror or a mood
Poetry can be many things to many people
Like me, and you
It can fill us, it can empty us
What can’t it do?
I don’t know
Do you?

Recipe For A Perfect Community

First you need a bowl of houses.
Then you need two eggs full of people.
Mix the bowl of houses with the eggs full of people.
Then you will have a house with people in it.
Pour the house with people in it into a pan.
Then you will have a neighborhood,
Because people in the neighborhood make up a community.
Bake for 10 minutes in order to have a solid community.
Get some water to clean up and wash away the bad things.
Then we will have a perfect community.
